Cover Cover The human round worm Strongyloides stercoralis has a unique life cycle with parasitic and free-living generations. The cover (created by Dr.Franklin Neva) depicts first-stage (rhabditiform) larvae (at a magnification of 400X) from the sputum of a patient with disseminated strongyloidiasis. Comparison of S. stercoralis clusters with stage-specific expression to Caenorhabditis elegans homologs expressed in either dauer or nondauer stages suggest conservation in the repertoire of genes expressed during growth in nutrient rich conditions. (For details, see Mitreva et al., pp. 209-220.)
