About the Cover

Cover Figure

Cover Comparison of the mod(mdg4) gene locus among insect species provides evidence that extensive exon rearrangement within this region occurred during the divergence between the mosquito (Anopheles gambiae) and the fruitfly (Drosophila melanogaster). The substantial amount of exon rearrangement included at least 11 breaks, and addition of new function as well as exon duplications. (For details, see Labrador and Corces, pp. 2220-2228; mosquito image was obtained from http://www.insectsafari.com/ insectid/flies_mosquito.asp; the fruitfly image was obtained from http://www.darwin.museum.ru/expos/floor2/drozof.htm.)
